We bring to you Bageecha, a limited collection of hand-block printed Chanderi saris, filled with paisleys using the three-hundred-year-old art of hand-block printing.
Jaipur has been carrying the heritage of using hand-made block prints in their crafts and clothes across historic moments. The artisans continue day after day to stamp lengths of fabric with natural dyes using hand-carved woodblocks. The enchanting sound of this printing process echoes through the streets of the villages like unsung folklore.
Over three decades, this art, made entirely by hand requiring years to gain mastery, is passed on to each generation, working almost exactly like the one before.
Carved meticulously by hand into Sheesham wood blocks, the paisleys come alive wholly as a print, over a repeated process of stamping the outline; Rekh, and then the fill; Datta and finally, the ground colour block; Gud.
Look closely, and you'll notice subtle overlaps, little spills of dyes, & faint imprints. These truly personify the hand-work gone into its layers. Run your fingers through these improper lines, bask in its uniqueness, knowing there is not another one, all alike.
